5 Timeless Marketing Tips For Your Business
These days when people hear the word marketing, they most often think of social media and how to sell their product or service by posting online. Ten years ago, that was not the case. As an entrepreneur for over 18 years, I can tell you that the marketing platforms will change, but there are basic principles that will not.
One of the most frequent questions my clients ask me is, “What should I be doing to market my business?” We always start with these and then work from there…
5 timeless marketing tips that every entrepreneur should do to grow their business.
- Brand yourself first.
- Show up everywhere your potential clients are.
- Be authentic.
- Consistency is key.
- Follow through.
Brand yourself first.
You are your brand. People need to know who you are and what you stand for. Having a well-defined brand will set you up for success. So, create a name, logo, voice, color scheme, and value proposition that represent your company. Your brand should also include your core values and the unique things that differentiate you from your competition.
Show up everywhere your potential clients are.
It’s important to learn where your potential clients hang out and be there. You also need to find out what platforms they are on and where they have conversations online and offline. This takes a little research, but if you do this in the beginning, you’ll connect much more easily with your audience. If you are not where your potential clients are, you don’t exist to them.
Be authentic.
It’s easier to connect with people when you are genuine. Being your true authentic self will lead you to like-minded individuals and people you will want to work with. People buy from those they know, like, and trust. Remember to always be honest. This is the smallest big town there is.
Consistency is key.
Whatever you decide to do, do it consistently. If you say you are going to blog once a month, then do it once a month. If you’re going to go live on your social media once a week, then stick to that. Building a business is about doing the right things over and over again. The more consistent you are with your message and showing up, the more likely people will remember you and buy from you. Marketing takes time and effort.
Follow through.
This leads me to my last point, which is follow-through. Don’t start something, then quit before you finish. If you are creating a marketing campaign then do every piece of it from start to finish. If you tell someone you are going to do something, stick to your word. They will remember that. It’s been said that the “fortune is in the follow-up”, but in my experience, it’s also in the follow-through.
No matter what industry you’re in, these 5 marketing tips will serve you well now and 20 years into the future. I know, because they haven’t steered me wrong in the past 18+ years that I have been a business owner.
