Perception Equals Profit
Perception equals profit seems to be a topic that keeps coming up with our clients lately. It might not make sense at first but let me explain.
There are two different perceptions we think impact your profitability and success as a business. The perception you have about yourself and your business AND the perception others have of you and your business.
Your perception of yourself.
What is self-perception? It is simply defined by being aware of who you are, what you’re like, and what you are capable of. How does that lead to the profitability of your business? Think about it, if you perceive that you won’t succeed, chances are you won’t. On the other hand, if you perceive that you will succeed your actions and attitudes will be positive towards the task, making it more likely to make it happen.
Remember, self-awareness helps you identify your perception of yourself and how it’s playing out in your life. Your brain is a powerful tool; use it. Tell it what you want it to do and how you want to show up in life, not what you perceive is wrong.
Others’ perception of you/your business.
Others’ perceptions of you become your reputation and part of your brand to the outside world. If others perceive you as hurried, rushed, and/or overwhelmed all the time, they will assume that you don’t have time for them or that you can’t handle business. They won’t want to work with you nor refer you, so as not to add to your overwhelm.
But, if you always show up professionally and with a smile on your face, they will perceive you to be successful and want to do business with you. Humans are attracted to positivity, connection, and success. They want to do business with people they know, like, and trust. So, if they perceive you as trustworthy and likeable, you have a better chance of earning their business.
Real-Life Examples
Let’s say you struggle with perfectionism. You have an incredible business idea, but you can’t seem to get it off the ground. You keep second-guessing yourself and every decision you make. Maybe your perception is that you are not good enough. This perception will keep you from building a profitable business if you don’t find a way to overcome it.
Another example would be, if you are a realtor and are always running late, don’t have the market research needed, and appear disheveled, how do you think people will perceive you? They will assume you are unorganized and don’t know what you are doing.
Perception Equals Profit
Perception will always correlate to earning business or not. Does it make sense now? Perception equals Profit. Start today. List all the things you catch yourself thinking about your business or ideas about yourself. Start rethinking the ones that keep you from success. Look at how you dress and behave. Next time you find yourself in a challenging situation, ask yourself, “Do I see solutions and success, or do I see problems and failure?” Re-set your perception. We know it will translate to profit.
